The Furness Theatre Organ Project.
We are a group of people with a shared passion for the theatre organ. Our intention is to fully restore the ex Rex Cinema, Stratford, London Wurlitzer Organ and install it in the Royalty Cinema, Bowness-on-Windermere. This will be a real jewel in the crown for Cumbria as
we understand that there are no longer any Wurlitzer organs situated in a working cinema in the whole of the UK. Once restored a new chapter can begin for this organ and cinema. The combination of which will give the audience a unique and nostalgic experience.
The cinema's 1928 auditorium now houses the organ console, whilst behind the scenes work is being carried out to build and install the understage pipe chambers.
We expect that in 2012 this wonderful 1927 vintage Wurlitzer Organ will once again be heard, played by a team of organists before films. Concerts, performed by organists from around the country, will also be a regular feature.
